Bauhuas Jaegars (urban camo style)
« on: August 18, 2008, 08:59:13 PM »
Also done are the urban camo Bauhaus Jaegars (even though they're on rural bases, I was using them as test base models as well).

Feel free to comment!

They were a bit rushed in the end (and I now remember why I hate metallic paints).

They look great! Colour scheme works really well.

However, I still see mouldlines on the backpacks. Other than that, wonderful job.

those guys look great man. Too bad with the mould lines, but I guess we all can pretend that the backpack is "sown" that way or something :) good job!

thanks guys

yeah i only recently got files, so there should be no excuses for me with my figures now :)

and the camo was done by googling that kind of pattern and painting each grey, black or white from a bottom to top order, and trying to stay true to the pattern.

I catually think the camera brings too much out in the paintjob, and they actually look better in real life (if i do say so myself :P)

They look very nice. The rather large mold lines on the backpacks bring them down a bit though.

Pancreasboy, have you tried mixing in some normal grey paint in your metals? It can really help make metals less shiny.

Hmmm you might be onto something there Coil.

I'll have to give it a go, because metallic paints have really been giving me strife lately. I've had several different brands and they just paint on semi - transparent. Not happy.

Models look great.

Most metallics come out too shiney IMHO. I just use regualr colors and build up. Sometimes I will do a very light drybrush at the end with metallic paint.

Nice looking figs.   To tone down the metal, try hitting the guns with a black wash.  Might be a quick and easy way to tone down the silver towards a gun metal shade....

Keep up the good work!

Here's a link to the tutorial I got the idea from.

Experiment a bit with how much metallic you add to the grey. I tend to use about 50/50. For golds I mix the metallic paint with brown.

@Coil: Which brand of paint do you use?
VeezCon products:  Not as good as if they had been actually produced by a real figure company, but better than using your shoe to proxy with...sort of!

Pancreasboy, that is some seriously nice work, dude.  The camo's so realistic that it makes the entire group look like one bug mass (the entire purpose of camo is to break up the lines of a figure so as to make it hard to distinguish to choose at what to shoot).

Excellent work!
If sing, sang, and sung, sink, sank, and sunk, and drink, drank, and drunk, how is it that it isn't bring, brang, and brung, think, thank and thunk, and ding, dang, and dung?

Don't even get me started about bad, badder and baddest.  Run, ran AND run...again?  C'mon!

Thanks guys.

I'll read over that tutorial Coil.

My actual problem was with my gun metallic colour as well as the silver, they just paint on semi-translucent, which is a real pain cause you lose all control of where you want to put the paint neatly.

Oh it“s a mix of everything out there accumulated over the years. I have:
- a bunch of Citadel paints (like everyone else). I am not getting anymore though when they dry out.
- Vallejo. I like the dropper bottles since they don't dry out as easily as the Citadel paints. You have to be careful though since you can get a ketchup bottle effect if you squeeze too hard.
- Target Games Warzone paints. These are also rather nice. Some of the colours like Ilian and Semai Blue and Cybertronic Grey I use all the time.
- Privateer Press P3 paints. These are my favourites at the moment. They have a very nice consistency and they thin out very well. I think it has something to do with the type of binder and pigments they use. Their reds are the best I've ever used.
