I've had some bad luck with both GW and Armory primer so i will be interested to hear how this stuff turns out.

I just purchased a small can of "The Army Painter" darktone shade. It cost $30.00. I will try it first and see if it is much better than the Tudor Satin I have. I hope it is $30.00 is a hefty price tag.

That looks like it will work nicely. Almost done with my terrain projects, will start painting very soon.

Scorpion that is some really good painting there and the dip just really brings it together.  I can't wait to see more of your work.

Yes those are some very nice figs!!!  Awesome paint jobs.  I usually do an ink job after I finish painting to unify the colors myself.

BTW - 'The Army Painter" company was creatted by two GW ex-employees. I have bougt a can of grey primer spray and ordered a can of the dark tone stain.

Being that GW is such a mastodont, and eats allmost all ressources and reigns as an absolute monopolist on the miniatures world, it's hard to find someone in the miniature world that isn't a GW ex-employee. (O yeah and they tend to get rid quickly of people with too much concern for the customer).  ;D

Yes I have -

I buy mine from Ace - One step stain called Tudor Satin works very well.

I have done some research and I will try the darkest shade from "The Army Painter"

I will let everyone know if the price tag is woth it. I have a feeling it will be.

I can't knock it before I try it.

They do return e-mails and were very helpful with some questions I had about their grey flock.

I tried "The Army Painter" stain. It does work well. It smells, looks and acts exactly like regular stain. I volunteer Dave to do the taste test.  ;D

I am not 100% sure that it (The Army Painter stain) is any better than the Tudor Satin stain I buy from Ace.

This would not be the first time G.W. or in this case ex- G.W. used a product another company sells - repackaged and re sold at a much higher price.

The example I have is their static grass. It looks very similar (if not exactly the same) as Noch (German company that sells trains/acc).

http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/noc/noc50210.htm?source=froogle

$11.76  100 grams   0.1176 per gram

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1030003&prodId=prod1095396

$8.25  15 grams  0.55 per gram

Last time I checked they were exactly the same product.

I think the one they use is sommer grass or spring grass and yes Phil/Dave that is the way "summer" is spelled on the Noch package.

I'm 100% sure that it is not better than the Tudor Satin stain. My first impression when I heard and saw 'the army painter' product, was : "wow I must find a stain in a home decoration store, it seems to give good results. I don't think I'll buy the 'army painter' range, It would be stupid to be triple price for a product where they only changed the packaging."

This product is clearly just a stain, it has not a secret magical formula. It gives the same results as awash, but just thiker, so you don't need to do it 4 times.

I have both stains (I guess we can safely call "The Army Painter" a stain now IMHO). I did see the same results from both.

I am back with new bunch of minis. It's my squad of LI (7x soldier, sgt, lmg, medic, gl, fo a cpt). Same dipping technique as above, but now I used splash-on technique for slighter layer.

After painting:

Whole squad

Detail on some of my boys

Bases

Rust effect on bases. Unfortunately it will be nearly fully covered by dip  :(

After dipping and varnishing (only yellow triangles on bases missing):

Without speed lamp

With speed lamp

I hope you like it.
