Elven House
« on: March 27, 2008, 09:21:09 PM »
I recently started work on an Elven House, it is made from Foamboard, Blue Insulation Board, Hirst Arts bricks, wire and cereal board.   First thing I did was grabbed some cork tile to use as a base, it is a little flimsy, but the blueboard added a lot of strength.   Anyways, I took a sharpy and sketched out the basic plan for it on the cork tile.  Then I whipped up  hirst arts blocks to make the basement.  Cut the blue board out to make the hill, it was a little iffy getting the hill to fit around the basement, but I did so (has a big gap on the one side though).  I then took some foam board and made a floor, then I cut the walls to fit, though because the floor and walls aren't square, there are gaps on the walls.  So I cut some cereal box out to fill in the distance, these will be painted as wooden planks.  The roof was cut out of strips of cereal box, these have a diamond pattern on the bottom and are just a strip on the top, they are glued in layers and trimmed to fit.  The corners have diamonds covering them.  I just did the wire work today, it is simply small gauge wire curled with some needle noses, I figured the imperfection of the curls would help make it look better rather than worse.

I still have a fair amount of work to do though, I need to make a cap for the roof, and build the chimney.  Now, I will also be doing various decorations on the ground and such.  I hope to make some various flowers and things to decorate.  The roof will have a bit of flocking to represent mold, and maybe some crumbled green herbs for leaves.  The wife is still working on the railing, hopefully she'll be done soon.  I think it'll look nice and the piece is good for gaming around, allowing a lot of cover and some height advantage, without being as boring as a hill.

It has been based on a work I saw on Terragenesis:

Here are the most recent WIP.

Well, except the lack of people to play with, otherwise I hope it's true.

The final touches will prove most interesting.

Thanks,
Glenn

This does look really good.  What sort of colors do you plan on painting it?

It'll be purple, a similar shade to what I am using on my House of the Howling Moon.

Here is a new shot, painting begins, NOW.

Glenn Looking good  :o :o

The only thing I'm not so sure about at the moment is the banister for the stair case I think it looks good without it.

Well, I finally finished.  I may add some more ground details, but overall, I really think it turned out well.  So, what do you think?

Well Veez, next time you are over in North Western PA, stop by and my Elves will lay your Stygian down for the slaughter.

I plan to make some accessory pieces for the house, but I will probably not make another one, however I make make some other buildings in the same style.  No symmetry, a kind of random construction method.  Essentially, something built with very little equipment.  Almost a peasant home, but not quite.

I would imagine the home is leaky and kind of dreary, but the family who owns it try to maintain it best they can.
