Campaign Casualties

CASUALTIES
The tragic part of every battle is the toll in lives.  Since you are playing a campaign, each trooper’s life becomes that much more precious for you since he will not be available for the next battle, and it will cost you valuable resources (VP) to replace him.  The rules below detail how to handle campaign casualties.

After a battle has ended, both players must roll a D20 for each model killed and consult the table below to determine their Recovery Number.  You must roll equal to or less than the Recovery Number to see if the model was killed in battle or merely wounded.

Recovery Table
Battle Outcome               Recovery Number
Crushing Victory (Enemy lost 3x (or more) as many models.)   Model lives on a 10 or less
Victory (Enemy lost 2x as many models.)         Model lives on an 8 or less
Pyrrhic Victory (Enemy lost an equal number of models.)      Model lives on a 6 or less
Noble Loss  (You lost 2x as many models as the enemy.)      Model lives on a 4 or less
Annihilated (You lost 3x as many model as the enemy.)      Model lives on a 2 or less

Unrecoverable Casualties
Models that turned into zombies, killed by flame throwers, destroyed by a Soulshearer cannon, can obviously not be recovered.  Use common sense in these situations and make a note during the battle if a model was killed in an unrecoverable way.

Undead Casualties
Since the dead can always be raised again, undead gain +2 to their Recover Numbers.  They must still roll recovery since this represents just how mutilated (and therefore capable of physically containing their evil spirits) their bodies were during battle.
Wounds
Even if a model survives the battle, there is a chance he will be permanently disabled due to the severity of his wounds.  This system is designed primarily for Leaders, Individuals, Heroes, and Specialists.   We can assume troopers manage to somehow keep up with their brothers.  However, if you don’t mind the bookkeeping…
Casualty Fate Table

D20      SEVERITY      EXPLANATION
1-10       Full Recovery   The injuries far less severe than it first seemed, and trooper makes a full recovery.
11-16      Wounded      Roll once on the Wound Table (below).
17      Badly Wounded   Roll 3x on Wound Table (below).
18      Bitter Enemy   Although he makes a full physical recovery, the fighter has
been psychologically scarred by his experiences. He gains Hate: 2 for the force of
                                                                the enemy who hurt him.
19       Captured      The fighter is captured. Captives may be exchanged, ransomed back or sold into
slavery. If both armies hold captives then they must be exchanged on a one-for-
one basis, starting with models of the highest value.  Any remaining captives must
be "bought back” using his available VP.   If does not have enough to buy back
                                                                the model, it is executed.
20       Miraculous      Despite a seemingly deadly wound, this model recovers Recovery and gains +5 EP

Wound Table
D20      LOCATION         PERMANENT EFFECT
1-5       Chest wound      AR - 1
6-10      Leg wound         MV -1
11-15      Arm wound      ST -1
16      Blinded in one eye      RC -1 & -1 to Spot tests*
17      Head Wound      LD -1
18      Ear Wound (deafened)   - 2 to Spot Tests**
19      Shell Shock         AC -1
20      Hand Wound      CC -1

*A model wounded twice in this location in blind and out of the game.
** If this model is attacked from the rear the enemy gain +4 CC.

Nice.

We need to get all of your work in one spot then turn it into a PDF or something.
VeezCon products:  Not as good as if they had been actually produced by a real figure company, but better than using your shoe to proxy with...sort of!

I have a big file I wrote this all up on in Word.

I just always liked the idea of one battle influencing the next so there are some consquences to how costly your victory is.

More to come--
