Staggered activation unit
« on: September 21, 2005, 10:15:56 AM »
I got this idea from some Derro miniatures produced by Reaper.  There's 3 in the pack.  One has a spear, one has a club with a rope on it for entangling, and one has a crossbow.  So I got the idea for a unit comprised of 2 or 3 models, working in concert.  They would have what's call Staggered Activation, where you get to use the first action of one model, then the first action of the next model, until you get to the end.  Then repeat the process for the second action.
Let's look at a 2 man unit doing this.  The first model is armed with something to make a trip attack, and the second uses a nasty weapon to hit the opponent who's pulled prone.  Model one makes the trip attack and succeeds.  Model two makes a hit roll and misses (blimey!).  Model one makes an opposed strength check to maintain grip, and model two finally hits.  This would make for an interesting unit, but would be treated like an individual perhaps.  Ideas?

I'd not go about making new rules up, but as far as a new ability that has a squad or team use their actions in concert (with the aformentioned die rolls) ala the UWZ crew served weapons it sounds rather like a very interesting dynamic.  A sort of highly specialized group assault.

That's what I'm goin' for.  I don't play Warzone yet, so maybe one of you who does could flesh it out further.  Cheers.

basicly the entire unit operating the crew served weapon must spend one action a piece and simulatiously to make it do whatever it does.  IE a Mounted Machine Gun crew spends one action with each of them working in their assigned roles (Gunner, Loader, Jimmy Dean pork sausage repeating bazooka firer) to fire the weapon once.    In your case the only differeance would be that there would be either a series on concerted rolls or something like the huntin spiders has with it's immobilizing web attack and follow up  hits.

at least that's how i see it working

So what happens if a member of the Squad dies....wouldn't that ruin the purpose of the squad and render it useless.

Well we got a gunner but no one to load the damn thing.

Going from 3 to 2 would make it less effective, definitely.

I'd say that whichever member of the team died his specialty would be lost.

This kind of reminds me of Black Blood Trolls with a net and Dwarven Horned Ones with the Ram Att. The only difference is you wish to use a two man team. Give the unit Ind. Status and give it 2 wd. then treat it like a ram att. If I am missing something let me know what it is.
