Vince Diamond
« on: July 27, 2007, 12:06:06 PM »
It has been a while since I painted a WZ mini but I knew that I wanted to paint Cybertronic's biggest hero Vince Diamond. Wmeredith was kind enough to trade me this one.

I had planned to enter it in the Total Testosterone Contest over at Wyrd but I have been really lazy and got almost no painting done this entire spring. So I missed the deadline. I suppose I could wait until the next Total Testosterone contest but I just cannot wait to show it to you guys.

Here he is Vince Diamond hero of Cybertronic and a total badass full of hormones. The pics of course could be better but I tweaked them a bit in photoshop. I am quite pleased with his skin and face. This is also my first try at object source lighting (from the grille he is standing on). He can be removed from the diorama and be used in games (I mainly plan to use him in Siege of the Citadel).

Let me know what you think.

Very nice job Coil! The shading and highlighting on the skin is great - especially on the face! How much time did you take on him?
It IS as bad as you think it is and they ARE out to get you!!!

the face is nice indeed.

other parts could use more shading and/or washing, though. the cables into the hand are also a little necrotech/slimy. perhaps green or blue.

oh my, i got to paint.. (or at least upade the stock-list;))

*edit: yes, the background is very good!

Nice piece.  I like the background as well!
VeezCon products:  Not as good as if they had been actually produced by a real figure company, but better than using your shoe to proxy with...sort of!

Very nice!  The 5 o'clock shadow is extremely well done.

Yeah, he's the spitting image of me. Muscles and everything.  ;)

The 5 o'clock shadow is actually really easy to do. When the normal highlights and shading is done make a mix of GW Shadow Grey (or equivalent blue grey paint) and black. Thin this mix down quite a bit and carefully apply it to the lower half of the face. If neccessary go back and reapply some highlights with your flesh colour.

Vince is a really old mini but I feel he still is quite good. I especially like the way his face is sculpted. It just has so much character.

I don't know how long it took really. I paint several minis at the same time and I watched Simpsons and Battle Star Galactica episodes on the computer while painting so who knows. I painted up him and 7-8 other minis over a couple of nights. He has been sitting on my desk primed for quite a long time though while I've been thinking of what colours to choose.

It's because handsome devils like him and I have prominent cleft chins.   ;D

I'm really impressed with the Hirst arts base you created.  Very Cybertronic.  I don't have the SF mold series, but I think you've made really good use of them here.
