First battle
« on: July 21, 2007, 05:21:06 AM »
In our first full fledged battle we chose 500 point armies.  We had 6 players with 3 sides.  Dwarf and First Borm, Elf and Devout, SOK and Stigian.  We started with random starting posistions and it was a free for all.  The SOK got a bad break and started between the Elf and Devout and got whacked from both sides.  The Dwarf force moved toward the Stigian and the FB moved toward the elves.  The FB archers decimated the Elves who were forced to fight a split battle against the SOK.

After several rounds the FB - Dwarf force were still at full strength the Stigian and Devout were with out allies, and at about 75% force strength they decided to retreat.

We figured out a lot about the rules that we had missed, our next battle will be 1000pt armies will have an actual goal not just lill every one.

One side note our SOK player switched to the Blackblood for the future.

dont be afraid to try out a deathmatch, or even a hybrid deathmatch rules, it allows you to try out many different figs, and it is quick, with those many players you could have a round robin tournament even, 1 on 1, the deathmathc shouldnt take much more than 30 minutes once you get the hang of it.  its a much smaller scope, adn allows you to use the rules and figs

Troy makes some good suggestions.  With the size of your group you might try "Deathmatch" rules on Coki's site.  We (4-state militia) also use a variation where we use 1/2 strength warbands and you are allowed #of warbands minus 1 for individuals.  This gives the "feel" of chronopia, but plays faster and oin smaller board.  We played it and it worked well.
