mini-battle report
« on: June 22, 2007, 11:01:41 PM »
This was actually a very small skirmish but I doodled some crummy maps so i figured i'd share.  Used 2nd ed. rules, so some things were pretty different from UWZ (i.e. Stalker is an individual, Atillas have AR/machine-pistol combo).
Story-wise I figured Cybertronic located an abandoned installation deep in the Venusian jungle, so they sent in a light recon force to see if it was worth sending in a second, larger force to secure the site. Unfortunately, they'd discover the place was very infested.

Tronic
4 chasseurs, hmg, sergeant
chasseur hero as leader (captain in UWZ? Guy with the shotgun... Proxied with PV hero)
2 atillas as heavy backup (thanks Dragon62 :P)
DL
9 undead legionnaires, necromutant handler
1 pretorian stalker

The locale was a collection of small buildings (the ones marked with LOS crossed out), power generators and such that acted as hard cover, with a sort of pool/pit of sludge in the open area as evidence that the installation had fallen into disrepair.

The game started with the legionnaires advancing a bit and then spreading out into a mostly-prone firing line. The tronic force split into long- and short-range-proficient teams, with the chasseur hero and atillas advancing down one side and the chasseur squad advancing to an area that offered some hard cover.
The chasseurs managed to get behind the power generator/hard cover without suffering any casualties, but the next hail of kratach fire killed all 4 of the chasseur troopers... Things suddenly looked really bad for the tronic force, so the hero and atillas decided to backtrack and avoid the waiting legionnaires on the side of the dl line to rejoin the leftovers of the chass squad. Still, the *panicked* HMG specialist and sgt. heroically managed to kill 3 of the legionnaires, the first DL casualties.
The atillas then charged into short range from behind the chasseurs and smashed the center of the legionnaire firing-line with machine-pistol fire. The kratach fire that hit them on the way just bounced off their shiny plates, but right after, they were both completely wrecked by the pretorian stalker's scythe of semai. A left over legionnaire on the side managed to snipe the HMG specialist, and now only the hero and sgt. were left alive.
Now, the stalker had two options as he saw it:
1: Advance down the side of the map under cover to attack the chasseurs up close and without the benefit of their cover while legionnaires distracted or
2: charge up-front and fire from close range
The stalker took the second, riskier option, and unfortunately for him, missed all shots fired at the chasseurs. They countered with all their actions spent on shooting at the very dangerous stalker, and some shots missed and some just glanced off its superb armor, but they did manage to kill it before it could fire again.
The end of the game was spent with some tense sniping between the last few legionnaires and chasseurs, with the two chasseurs surviving, though the hero suffered a wound.

So what happened in the end? Due to DL infestation, Cybertronic decided against trying to acquire the facility. The chasseur captain/hero was demoted for leading his team to the slaughterhouse and for gross incompetence (splitting up and then regrouping the team). The sergeant, on the other hand, was promoted to the captain's position. What this really meant, though, was that the ex-captain got a boring but safe desk job and got to father many little chasseurs, while the promoted ex-sergeant got sent on to further dangerous jungle missions. Did he survive long? Whoever plays Cybertronic next can find out and tell us hah.

Cool batrep.  But the inclusion of the map made it the more enjoyable to read.
