Origins/Columbus Excursions
« on: June 02, 2007, 12:51:02 PM »
Hey this thread is specifically directed at those who are going to Origins 2007 and especially those who are bringing with them their better half.

Since I live in Columbus (albeit only for a few months now), I have volunteered to assemble a little "What to do around Columbus" package.  I am curious as to how many packages I need to get together.  Also, give me some ideas of what kinds of activites you would like info on.  It's already been requested to include a flyer from the zoo and information on local shopping.  I figure I could include various restaurants as well.  Let me know if there are any specific requests (ie - sushi, Italian, Mexican, buffets, cafes, delis, etc) and relative price ranges that you are looking to stay within.  Also, what other kinds of activites do you want to know about (sporting events, pubs/bars, bowling alleys, night clubs, comedy clubs, movie theaters, live theatre).

If I don't get any requests then you will be stuck with info on my favorite places and interests.  So, I suggest you give it some thought and let me know!

Good thought.  I've been to that D&B before.  It's a little smaller than the ones that I'm used to from Cleveland and Chicago but, it is still fun.

Yes, there is a place in Columbus north of the city proper but, south of 270, that is called little Mexico.  It's a wonderful part of town, very clean and with great property values.  :)

Mexican and Oriental are a must. I have Italian covered unless there are better places than Napoli Villa. Mind you I am not just talking food -- atmosphere is equally important. I'll have to get back to you on other areas of interest,

History Museum  - check
Santa Maria - check (and boy was it a long, hot hike over the river and around the street carnival that I did not want to pay admission for just to walk through it, in order to get the info)
D&B - on the list to slide by, that's a little outside of town

As for the food TK, have I ever steared you wrong before?  Napoli Villa does have good ambience and friendly service but, it's a bit far for someone wanting to run out for a quick lunch.

Oriental - check
Mexican - I need to work on as this is not a style of cuisine that I prefer.

Any other suggestions/requests?  Also, how many packets should I be assembling?  I figured 5 or 6 so I've been collecting enough for 8.  Do I need more?

yeah i just *got* to butt in here and recommend the Pad Thai if you guys go thai.    its a pretty common dish but its also one of the best things i've ever had. is basically a noodle plate cooked in like peanut sauce with hardboiled eggs, onions and some other veggies i think, and chicken or some other meat.  best one i've had also had sprinkled peanut or cashew bits on it iirc.  omfg its good.

Gotta agree that Pad Thai is pretty tasty. However as much as I like Thai, Mexican, etc my first choice is Cajun -- got a gumbo house anywhere in Columbus?
