Newbie questions

Someone recently taught me how to play WarZone.  I liked the game very much, bought and read the rules, and am getting ready to teach some friends, but there are a few rules I either cannot find or don't understand.

When we played, we assessed a -2 RC penalty to shots against targets with Minimized Presence.  That seems reasonable, but I cannot find this in the book.  Was this a house rule?

Similarly, we observed 4 trooper per specialist limit, but I can't find this in the rule book.  Instead I see limits expressed with statements like "up to 2 per squad".   (I've seen the FAQ entry on this, which also mentions the 3 trooper per spec. limit for elite squads, but as the rule book does not seem to mention this and has its own limits, I can't help but wonder if this is house rule?  There is nothing wrong with a good house rule, but I like to know which are which.

The example in the spotting section of the fire missions rules says that forward observer is needed for speculative fire when no friendy model has LOS and is in command distance of the mortar squad.  Does that mean that any friendly model (assuming it could call out coordinates, e.g. not a mastiff) with LOS to the target and within command range of the shooter can act as the forward observer?

Many of the army lists seem to have limits on who you can ally with, for example, the Brotherhood may not bolster it's troops with the forces of Dark Eden.  Bauhaus has limits on its consultants and advisors.  I can't seem to find the section that explains who you can ally with, and in what porportions, or what a consultant or advisor is.  Could you direct me to where that is covered?

-2 RC when shootin at targets that are in MP is a real rule.

4 Grunts (and 3 Elites) per specialist is a real rule.  It had to be FAQ'd in but it's real.

To be a Forward Observer requires the Forward Observer Special Ability.  an example would be the Heavy Infantry Communicatiosn specialist (Comm Spec).

All Corporation forces may ally with Cartel and Dark Eden forces.  Each allied squad/Unit takes one support slot of your main army.  you get one support slot for each two grunt squads that you have.  Both forces must follow standard buying practices ie One grunt per One Elite and One Individual per Squad.

Example Allied forces

Main Corporation: Capitol

Light Infantry Squad
Light Infantry Squad

Light Infantry Squad
Dog Team

Assault Marines

Maria Del Tores

Cartel Peacekeepers squad

Agent Nick Carter

The four Light Infantry squads get you two Support squads.  Nick Carter, an Individual takes up a Support slot and requires one Cartel Squad, the Peace Keepers.

I just woke up and my book is in the car, otherwise I'd give you page numbers to back this up, but this is all correct.

Thank you very much for your answers, and for the detailed example of how to use allies -- that makes it very clear.

Someone told me once that , using a grunt squad as an example, that to use a specialist, there had to be four models in the squad, so that a person could have a Sgt and three troops, and then buy a specialist.

Ex:

1 Trencher Sgt
3 Trencher troops

and with that I can get:

1 Trencher HMG.

and then, if I include 4 more Trencher troops, I can get another HMG, or a Sniper, or whatever

is that just dead wrong or not?

That is correct.

Sergeants/required  units count towards the prequisite for a specialist.

so for a grunt squad to have two specialists it would need at least 7 grunt troopers and 1 Squad Leader.

Dont forget the minimum requirment. Most Squads (exept Victors or somewhat else) require a minimum off 4 Troopers and the Sergeant. Trenchers does have a minimum of 4 Troopers and a Sergeant, too.
