Watched this program on the Discovery Channel the other day and it's quite good. The host, Les Stroud, is compelling and has a very laid-back, down to earth attitude that draws you into the show and really feel for his plight. To sum the program, he's dropped off in the middle of a wilderness, arctic wasteland, swamps, middle of the ocean, just to name a few, (just by himself, no camera crews) with just the barest equipment and loads of camera gear, and for seven days, he has to survive on whatever means he can.  And to make things harder for him, has to film his routine.  A common technique he does is plant a camera, explains the audience that he will travel yonder glacier, mountain, gorge, etc.  and walks off dissapearing into the horizon.  Then he comes back after the camera.

Great and informative show.  Very useful when one's stuck in the inhospitable parts of this planet.

Man vs. Wild...

I bet that is the one you are thinking about.  If I happen to be flipping channels and see it.  I stop and watch it.  Very fascinating.  The guy was an ex british special ops or something.  Very cool and he's funny too.

In one episode, he was in the African plains looking for water.  He wasn't able to find a water hole, so he squeezed moisture out of elephant dung.  Watched that greenish dung water drip down his chin.

Don't know if i should be repulsed or in awe.

I think I have seen them all to date.  I was amazed at the one where he clonked a wild rabbit with a small log from about 40 feet away.

Snuck up on it and THWIP... KLUNK.  Unconscious rabbit!  Yum!

yeah I saw that one to.
On a survior man episode he was walking around a swamp and almost step on rattler snake.
End up beating to death with a stick and cook it

It's entertaining to see them roughing it.  But how does one picture themselves in the hosts' situation, without the camera or crew, of course.

I would probably wander in circles in the woods and get mauled by squirrels.

Civilization has that effect, I guess.

Dag!

I missed that one.  That would have been so much useful! (and pertinent)

A definite must have for camping, hiking, and when you're camera crew has abandoned you in the middle of nowhere.
