« on: October 13, 2005, 03:21:56 PM »
Put together this list together for a tournament in January and plan to field it as much as I can to get the feel of it. It contains models I got because I wanted to use them in my force. So here she goes.

Stygian Priestess
Sand storm
Quicksand
Torrent of Blood
2 Drugged

Embalmed

Sisters of Tiamat

Tree Devil

4 Starved
warband 3 Axemen and 3 Spearmen
warband 3 Axemen and 3 Spearmen
4 Reapers

Army total is 998 and In hope to be smaking Drarves and Black Bloods around soon. Hope to hear replies.
The hosts are glorious in slaughter.

That's the thing about 1000 point games:  it's tricky getting the right balance and choice of units from board to board.  In a tournament setting, you've got to be able to react to different terrain/climate effects and objectives.  What might be a great army on one, might not fare so well on the other.  I think your army sounds good Firstborn, and I would look forward to fighting it.  Stygian Warrior Bill knows from experience fighting my Dwarves that those Stygian axemen are a must, so I'm surprised he didn't go with a list similar to yours, that is, all axemen.  He ended up buying more axemen, so I know he can field them.
But I have to say the drugged are a good idea.  Without them an army with a marksman could take the priestess out in the opening turn, or force her to take cover and have no LOS for her spells.
When Bill gets his Sisters of Tiamat put together, we'll throw down and post the report; I know he's been looking forward to it.
And depending on my Impaler's accuaracy, we'll try his other idea too, the one resembling yours!
Cheers.

You;re list is good Firstborn, but as I said this army is about feeling out the rest of the stygian units so in the future I will know what units can do what. I plan to specialize in the stygians so I need to know all their units.

Hmm Firstborns army looks a bit boring to me   ::)

My suggestion goes that way:

Stygian Priestess
Sand storm
Quicksand
Consume Blood

Embalmed

Hammerhead

Tree Devil

4 Reapers
warband 3 Axemen and 3 Spearmen
warband 3 Axemen and 3 Spearmen
warband 3 Axemen and 3 Spearmen

Total Army Cost: 1000

Advantage:

You keep the Polearm troops wich can come in very handy against flyers. When its hardt to place all Minis in Basekontakt they still can dish out their damage.
You got not that bad Misslescreen with the Reapers and The Hammerhead (chameleons) while the later packs a very good punsh on big beasts with lower VER stats.

I think i can disagree :). Its the most boring Force i saw for some time, yeah. Takeing only one type of warrior (what you think is the best) and than min max it ^^. Wheres the tactic and the flexebility? I dont think i need to explain again while a mixed warband with spear and axewarriors is a more flexible force than that "superior" axe only warbands of yours^^.

Btw the DAM output of a spearman is only 3 less than that off an axemen adding the polearm and the additional options wich gives it to me, thats a very effective unit.

I have a treedevil in it as well so dont see a reason it couldnt tear the warplord apart aswell(a poorly played one tho, my opponents here dont fall for that easy tricks  ;) ).

The new cheaper reapers are very effective against low armor (and high VER) units where  axemen are just overkill. Their far better VER and slightly higher chances to hit (2 vs 4 hits) makes them a very interessting choice (they have a better cc as well). The Chameleon ability makes it even possible to not relay on the priestess LOS for Range protection.

For all the saved points i get a 4th very good individual into the force (highest armor and high DAM for that race) wich can make a difference as it presents a threat to most big Creatures on the field.

Conclusion
My list isnt more boring than yours, it has a wider variety of different troops (3 more^^) wich leads to a greater flexebility when encounterd on differnent tactical situations. For me  flexibility on the field of battle is very important.

Sry that i dared to question your power driven list but i think it lacks flexebility  ::)

I think we have our first Forum Challenge.

This looks to be the realm of a Play By E-Mail though.

all Gentlemans Long Distance Duel rules apply:

Both parties will agree to a series of no less than three consecutive days in which to duel.

Once begun, the duel will continue until one full turn has elapsed.

There will be one full turn per day, for as many days are required, until objectives are met or one player bows out.

At the end of the full turn the moves will be emailed to a third party for validation and summation.  The Duelists may submit comments for general review but may not directly address their opponent.

No substitutions or list alterations.  The forces presented will be the forces used.

All honor and accolades to the victor (and possibly a nifty forum title).

If possible, could Wedge or another PBEM mod officiate?

WHOA !! I just saw I over looked the new points values on reapers. I have 50 points to spare. Here is the new list.

Stygian Priestess
Sandstorm
Quicksand
Blood frenzy
x2 Drugged

Sisters of Tiamat

Treedevil

Embalmed

5 starved

warband 3 spearmen
               3 axemen

warband 3 spearmen
               3 axemen

5 Reapers

Now with these changes I can beef up my screening and hunting units. 8)

Can you believe this guy?

You are the one who came out and said my list is "boring" and started posting those stupid rolled eyes emoticons.

Now that I am ready to kick your ass in front of everyone, you act like this......

 ::)

Uhm FBW -

Ruther was the guy who called your list boring - Stygian Warrior just posted the list that started the thread. Now might be a good time to apologize and throttle it down a bit.
