Smallish Ilian force
« on: March 20, 2007, 03:12:08 PM »
While rummaging around last night, I came across a few Dark Legion boxed sets and minis I had forgotten about. Cracking them open I found enough figures for a fairly doable Ilian force in 1st Edition rules, not quite 2nd edition, and not sure about UWZ (have the rules, leafed through, haven't played a game yet). This is what I came up with:

Grunt Squads-
Acolyte Squad - 1 Initiate Ldr, 1 Acolyte HMG, 9 Acolytes
Ilian Templar Squad - 1 High Templar, 1 Voidbringer, 6 Templars

Elite Squads-
Wheeled Templar Squad - 1 High Templar, 1 Voidbringer, 4 Knights, 1 Preceptor

Individuals-
Nepharite of Ilian (sword and pistol combo)
Reaper of Souls

Support-
Neronian Razide or
Unholy Carronade

Would this meet requirements?

The only thing I am not sure on is the Wheeled templars' squad composition; book gives a couple of listings for squad compositons -

Wheeled Templars - armed with Kratachs, squad size 2-4
Wheeled Templar Knights - armed with maces and kratachs, squad size 2-4
High Templar - ldr, compulsory
Voidbringer - specialist, option of 1
Preceptor- specialist , option of 1

So just to clarify, would it be possible to have a squad consisting of 2 Wheeled Templars, 2 Knights, Voidbringer, Preceptor and High Templar?

Sorry your army composition is incorrect. Cults and Ilian forces have to be two stand alone armies. You have to build Cults and Ilian army separately and then you will combine both as one big army. Otherwise you can`t add any support because you have not two grunt squards from cults or ilian force lists.

No it is incorrect, I think. You can purchase only one specialist for Wheeled templars squard. You have to choose Voidbringer or Preceptor, not both.

But I don't know if you purchase high templar, 5 wheeled templars or knights, if you can add two specialists (I apply rule: 1 specialist for 3 other squard members for elite unit... 1 specialist for 4 other squard members for grunt unit). Please correct me.

Thanks for the tips. It was the way I was interperting the army composition requirements (not UWZ fluent here) in the Dark Legion lists.

I can swing another squad of Acolytes by proxy to make up another squad. Need to track down something to proxy as Karak the Keeper as well.

I did a points cost on the above list, comes in at under 800 pnt without Symmetry powers and other bits and bobs.

I don`t play acolytes, initiates are better for me. Flamethrower is very impressive weapon. In czech and polish tournament format is invaluable help from acolytes with FT or Necromutants with tormentor from horde. On close terrain as deep jungle, canals or dungeons FT can do amazing job with enemy units. But I plays horde instead of cults, but I like Supereme necromagus specialist - Erisian Razide, the best of all razides...

No initiates found anywhere here, the've all been grabbed up. I suppose I could paint a second squad of alocytes to show as initiates, but thanks for some ideas.

Ok, no problem. You can find Initiates on polish ARO store. Write email to aro_consulting@o2.pl and ask for actual miniatures list.

WZ 9538   Initiantes (4) 4.99 EUR
WZ 9884   Initiante w/hvy weapon 2.49 EUR
WZ 9539   Sacristians (4) 4.99 EUR

You need sacricians as leaders of initiates. I suggest you to buy 2x Initiates and 2x heavy veapon and 1x sacricians. And destroyer leader if you plan play sacricians. With that you have variable options... You can play 1x acolytes and 2x initiates, or 1x sacricians as elite (but here i`m recommending destroyers), and  1x acolytes and initiates.

Strong combo is big initiates squard with two gehenas supported with Reaver Necrotransport. Initiates boards Reaver and they will be quickly transportet close to enemy in useful range for medium flamethrowers.. Residual damage 11 is famous and I seen situations when one initiate FT can burn no wounded Behemot in one shot (lucky guy  ;D)!
