Free Attack
« on: April 12, 2007, 06:33:27 PM »
Could someone clarify the "Free Attack" for Chronopia?  I've read it a couple of places and not sure what +/- this does, or if it means x-tra attack, etc.

The only free attack that I know of is when a panicked unit flees from CC.  The bonus for that is +2.  Is that what you meant?  ???

There are some instances of free attacks. Most notably the Horned Ones Ram Attack and the Dark Tusk Gore come to mind.

I can think of one off the top of my head.  You're Troll Deathseeker goes berserk and runs right over my unit card with a hidden marker on it.  It's my Scavenger, so, being hidden, goes in the back arc of your Troll and gets a "Free Attack".  Also, a Wait test may be used to hit again.  That's the only example I can think of and I don't have my book with me.  Any others I'm missing?

The Ram and Tusk attacks are called "free attacks", but in essence, they're not really.  Those attacks are factored in to the cost of the model, and you can still fumble or critical on them.  They really should be called "Gravy Attacks".

I think the hidden models (as represented by a unit card) explanation is where we'll find my example.

The Ram Attack should be renamed. I suggest we call it - The Massive Colon Blocking Cheese Assault

It sounds like there's more to the story here!!  Did that Ram Attack perhaps spoil your whole afternoon?  I'm actually looking forward to running a Horned Ones army down the road.  Pin, drill, glue, repeat.  Prime.  Paint.  Repeat.

I guess my main problem is with what exactly "Free Attack" means( is there a standard?).  Lets give some examples:

1)A paniced unit flees.  Opponent(s) gets "Free Attack" at +2.

This is in essence a extra action(attack) for opponent.  Does this attack occur if opponent is out of actions?  That is the way it seems, depending on the situation.

2)Jackal Clan Sout pg. 168 "If Jackal Clan Scout attacks from rear arc of their target they get their first attack with claw spike and a FREE ATTACK with their Elbow spike at no penalty.  However with their Scondary atttack the -4 penalty applies to both Claw spoke and elbow spike."

Is this a free attack because there is no -4 modifier to the elbow spike, or because the scout normaly doesn't get the elbow spike?

Thats the 2 that got me to think'n.   I understand the RAM and Hidden free attacks I'm jsut alittle unsure on the others.

1. Yes. The opponent may attack a fleeing model, even if out of actions.

2. If not backstabbing, he only gets the two Claw spikes, one normal, one secondary. If Backstabbing, he gets four attacks: 1 Claw and 1 Elbow as the primary, and 1 Claw and 1 Elbow as Secondary Attacks.
