The horror that was Eragon the Movie
« on: December 17, 2006, 06:15:53 AM »
A review described it as based a story written by a 19 year old with a screenplay written by a 12 year old.

The critic was spot on.

First, I understand that to shove a 400+ page book into 2 hours you have to abbreviate so I forgive that, but they changed major elements of the plot that could have been left alone for no particular reason (although perhaps there is some political sub-text that I was choosing to ignore).  In any event, the acting is poor, the dialogue is poor, the plot has been butchered and left to bleed to death by the roadside.  The dragon effects were fantastic, but not since Jurrasic Park has this saved a movie.  I will say, the styling seemed a lot like what Chronopia would look like in a live action movie.

I read the book.  I liked the book.  I am attempting to brain dump the movie.

Learn from my pain people.

I havent seen it, but, from the reviews i've read, the "target audience" is for the "under 20" demographic.... above that, and, well, the CGI is good.... ;) I will be waiting for a rainy day and its on a cable channel to watch it...

Critiques are always appreciated with the cost of a night out at the movies.  Thanks for the warning.

I am "forced" to take my two daughters to see it in about 30 minutes.  When I return I will let you know what I think.  Keep in mind, I have not read the books.  My oldest (13yr old) has and she's hypercritical (wonder where she gets it?).  We'll see what she thinks of it.

well, my wife got her way and demanded that I take her out to see this flick...

the final outcome...what a piece of ****...

it's not the worst movie that I've ever seen, that honor goes to that abomination of a movie called Dungeons and Dragons (which took over the top spot from Street Fighter), but it's right up there with the most tedious and terrible top 10...

that's 2 hours of my life that I want back...

and it wasn't just me that thought that...my wife usually likes terrible movies like this, since she has lousy taste in movies, but she even thought that it was a piece...

Well, I saw it with my girls.  My 13 year old picked it apart.  She was excited to see it and appreciated seeing the movie in her mind come to life, but she spent at least 30 minutes after the movie explaining to me everything they did wrong.  I didn't have the heart to tell her how bad the acting was... 13 and 10 year olds don't appreciate the critique that "The main character can't act his way out of a paper sack".

I was suprised how bad Malkovich was in this... and Jeremy Irons was bad too.  The guy that played the good-guy Varden (sp?) king is a terrible actor.  WTH were they thinking hiring Amistad?

All in all sub-par.  I am just glad they enoyed it.  It's a good thing my best friend is the manager of the theater and let us in for free.  Otherwise, I would have been upset.

I might have to get this when it comes out on DVD to add to my collection of terrible movies. :)

We know you'll love it Steve.  Go see it in the theatre.  Multiple times.  Bring tissues.

Hard to tell. The overall suckiness level was so high. Not even Irons and Malkovich can save a really bad story.

it's hard to say if Irons sucked in D&D because the movie was bad, or if he was just blowing it off for a paycheck...the writing in that abomination was bad, the acting was bad, the characters were bad (what was up with the Dwarf?)...

I don't think that it was all Irons, because he did a good job with a limited role in Kingdom of Heaven...
