No, not extreme at all. The one inch gap represents the shooting model's concern with hitting a buddy if he zigs, when he should have zagged. If he can lean around his buddy without encountering yet another buddy doing the same dance, then the shot may be taken.
Further, the target is, presumably, zigging
and zagging to make itself a harder target (it is part of the AR rating). Therefore, as long as LOS can be drawn to the target wihtout going through a
gap[/b] of < 1", the shot may be taken.
By the way, the other anchor of the gap may be terrain. Read "moving/shooting between friendly/enemy models."
