Elysian Nightmare
(EXERPT FROM A PRIVATE REPORT FROM THE CARDINAL OF VENUS TO THE HOLY SEE ON LUNA)
OrientationThe Elysian continent is located just north of the Venusian Equator and NE of the Graviton Archipelago. The climate is hot and humid and the landscape varies from a small desert region in the center part of the island to jungle/rain forest mix surrounded by large swathes of beachfront. Precipitation is high, and low visibility in the mornings and evenings with afternoon showers is a way of life. These factors negatively impact orbital and aerial surveillance, as do the dense jungle/forest growth. The wildlife in the region varies from relatively benign to outright dangerous. Specialized training is strongly recommended for any troops operating in this area. The day is synonymous with the standard 24-hour day (this was accomplished early in the terraforming process by means that are no long entirely understood). There is a limited network of highways that run between the Bauhaus facilities but for the most part the best way to travel is by air, but can be challenging due to the effects of weather. Land travel off of the established highways is only for the heavily armed and brave at heart. Off roads is slow-go (at best) for wheeled/tracked vehicles and slow go for walkers and foot. Sea travel is risky due to a recent increase in attacks due to sea monsters.
Corporate PresenceBauhaus has several overt facilities there and has historically maintained a strong military presence. However, in recent times with the onset of hostilities, forces have been diverted in order to place pressure on Capitol to the South protect shipping from increasing piracy and sea life attacks. It is a tightly held secret how depleted Bauhaus’ presence is. Should the other corporations learn how endangered their position is, it may trigger a scramble for territory that could trigger a firestorm. In addition to its military bases, Bauhaus maintains a fuel refinery, a small ore mine, several small fishing ports, and significant farmlands in the surrounding area. The refinery is currently under dispute and a Warzone Decree may be declared to determine its ownership.
Cybertronic has peacefully obtained a small area on the southern coast and has established a facility of unknown purpose. Surveillance, however, indicates that some sort of mining and perhaps refining operation have commenced recently. Also, it may be a site for weapons testing. In addition, they are bolstering their security forces and setting up defensive positions.
Both Mishima and Imperial have been eyeing this territory for some time and intelligence indicates a buildup of forces. Imperial may attack the Cybertronic facility, with the double purpose of striking against its enemy and obtaining land on this hot property. Mishima wished to expand on the area to take advantage of significant kelp beds that could be used to provide food exports back to Mercury.
The Cartel maintains a relay center and several camps in central mountain region. These facilities are protected by a surprisingly large contingent of agents, and serve as jungle training centers. Also, The Cartel sends frequent expeditions in to the interior and to quietly observe the activity of the other corporations. Recently these patrols have increased, and our servants at these camps have noticed an increase in casualties, byond what one would expect from run-ins with the local wildlife.
Unknown to any of the other parties, Capitol has a secret facility on the inner coast that they use to support special operations in the area. It is unknown just how large the facility is.
As you know, our glorious Brotherhood maintains a small outpost at Martyr’s Point, which can be reinforced quickly. Our primary function to day has been seek and destroy of Dark Legion sea creatures.
The Dark LegionIt is almost a certainty that the forces of have a festering presence in this island continent somewhere. Our visionaries have senses whiffs of corruption emanating from the center of the mainland. Whether this is the sign of a small outpost, such as a hidden temple or minor citadel, or just the tip of the iceberg is yet to be seen. Recent portents indicate an increase in DL activity. As noted before, sea monster attacks are on the rise, as well as casualties to all of the Corporate forces in the area. Shipments between Bauhaus facilities have disappeared in transit, another sign of their weakness in this area. That they have not yet sought us out for guidance shows their ignorance in these matters. The merchants will come to us on their knees, whether it is in prayer and dedication or in supplication and humiliation is up to them.
