Shooting priority and LOS
« on: December 07, 2006, 12:32:50 AM »

Model #A wants to shoot, model #B is friendly model from other squad. Where can I shoot?

#1,#2,#3 are enemy models (each from different squad - assume that they are individuals for example)

1 (8") no LOS
2 (10") partial LOS (dont have 1" space for shooting)
3 (15") clear LOS and shooting line

And now the questions:
1) Which model can I shoot? Must I move and shoot #1  or #2. Or can I shoot directly model #3?
2) Assume model #A on wait. Which model can he shoot from wait?

well, that refers to the dreaded LOS exploit... in whfb I do it with repeater bolt throwers and chariots

I think it is legal, and therefore he must shoot at #3
there is no " you must move into position rule", as far as I know..

B.

The firing lane only applies when shooting between friendly models.  Otherwise, normal targeting priority applies.  and no, friendlies don't provide cover from return fire.

What he means is that, in your drawing, Model 2 is the priority as there is more than a 1" (one inch) gap between friendly models to fire at Model 2.

In the following example, Model A could not fire at any model, let alone Model 2, as there is less than 1" between friendly models through which to fire.

If sing, sang, and sung, sink, sank, and sunk, and drink, drank, and drunk, how is it that it isn't bring, brang, and brung, think, thank and thunk, and ding, dang, and dung?

Don't even get me started about bad, badder and baddest.  Run, ran AND run...again?  C'mon!

but then, wheres the limit? does the "side corridor" just need to be 0,1 mm? or 1/2 inch?

if indefinitly small, then the 1“ between friendlies is very extreme..

No, not extreme at all.  The one inch gap represents the shooting model's concern with hitting a buddy if he zigs, when he should have zagged.  If he can lean around his buddy without encountering yet another buddy doing the same dance, then the shot may be taken.

Further, the target is, presumably, zigging and zagging to make itself a harder target (it is part of the AR rating).  Therefore, as long as LOS can be drawn to the target wihtout going through a gap[/b] of < 1", the shot may be taken.

By the way, the other anchor of the gap may be terrain.  Read "moving/shooting between friendly/enemy models."
