The Special Ability (SA), Secondary Attack (2ndAtt), seems to insinuate that both attacks must be Close Combat (CC) Actions.
Our group has played this rule incorrectly, apparently. In other words, if a model which has 2ndAtt is equipped with a ranged combat weapon, it has been allowed to conduct a Ranged Combat (RC) Attack against the closest model to it if it killed the model with which it was in CC on its first "action" of the 2ndAtt.
Please, ask me to clarify if I am not explaining this correctly.
What are your thoughts?

SA gives 2 attacks the 2nd at -4 to CC. If a model has a sword and pistol and declares the sword as his primary weapon and kills the intended target he can shoot the closest target within range, but I feel it should be a -4 RC attack not a -4 CC attack. IMHO

I don't have a problem with that; the rules seems to indicate that the secondary attack should also be a CC attack, though.
-
Page 51 rulebook:
"A model equipped with multiple weapons and the secondary attack special ability cannot fire a ranged weapon at another model, as both attacks must be against the enemy model in close combat. If the opposing model is dispatched by the first attack of the strike, then a secondary attack can fire the secondary weapon at another target with an additional -4 penalty."
Are we still playing it wrong?

I second the opinion of dmcgee1.
The second weapon can be a RC or CC attack. RC is only legal if the first model was killed with the first CC action, if you fire at another target (target priority has to be follewed here naturally).
But Itīs totally legal to get a second attack with a regular "ranged combat weapon". If its got a CC you have to use it against the same model if it isnīt killed. RC is only possible if first target was felled ;-)

This has been clarified by Thom - the secondary attack may, indeed, be an RC attack, following normal targeting priority.

Nicely done, sir; I completely missed that.
Forget I even started the thread. Next time, I'll check with Phil, Tim and Lopis, first. ;D

Not a problem. Didn't know what the "additional" penalty was. Obviously it is in addition to all normal penalties.
-
So it is -8 if the second attack is a RC? ???
-
No - it is -4 CC or RC, depending upon the type of the attack, +/- any weapon/range adjustments.
Simply a clarification that the secondary attack may be CC or RC, depending upon whether the acting model is, still, engaged in CC.

Correct. :)
