Title: Templates and walls
Post by: Lopis on November 21, 2009, 06:52:22 AM
What happens if a template is "broken" by a wall which is approx. half the height of a normal size 2 model?

Following situation:

A Faceless charges an opposing squad (member). A second squad member is on the other side of a wall as described above.
The second one is still under the template of the explosion.

In which form is he hit?

a) regular hit ?
b) not hit at all ?
c) a kind of reduced damage ?

With the half height wall it would be a full hit, but if the wall was taller then the sz 2 it would not be hit. At least thats how it's been played around here.

Phil is correct.  If the template hits the model, it is affected - no reduction for cover.  If the model is completely blocked, then it is safe, usually.  There are two exceptions (of which I can readily recall) - Gehenna Pukers and Apocalypse Power.  Gehenna Pukers will conform, and go through other models (no Cluster Effect) and will, therefore, go around obstructions in much the same manner.  Basically, if there is a way for the flame to reach the model (use a bit of common sense, here) then the model is affected.  With Apocalypse, the template hits any model under the template - period.  It is otherworldly power, and is not blocked by nomal means.

Dave can you expand on how templates are played through openings into rooms like a window please.

If the template covers any part of the base, check to se if the model could be affected; if the Cluster Effect has not been reached, is there LOS to the model.  If LOS exists between firing model and target model, it is affected.  If the template is a directly-placed template, full damage occurs.  If the template is a ranged template, cover bonuses apply.

Is that clear enough?
