Title: Army Ideas
Post by: luckyone on May 22, 2009, 08:49:00 AM
Just wanted to start a thread about off the wall/different army ideas people think up of:

Some examples I heard of/thought up:

All Airborne Capital army of Death from above. - not recommended for urban/underground scenarios

All stealth Imperial army

All light infantry with no SMG Capital

All dog and handler Capital - not sure if legal

All Trencher Imperial

Dave has his Vulkan army of doom also.

Anyone else????

I also think it would freak people out if when you set up you had no deployment cards until infiltrators are placed-

Capital with airborne rangers and rangers only. Could set up at least 4 cards infiltrated with two of them dummy cards.

Anyway to have an army all in transports???

Neat idea.

How about a Capital with Airborne Rangers and Wailing Banshees only. Very quick and precise strikes.

Because transports are support, the best you can do (I think) is one squad in two (one for every two grunt units per pg 37).

But if half your army mutines and kills the other half then each squad would get it's own ride   ;D

Now that's just wrong Top.

When I did the Space Marine conversion, I included the option of purchasing 1 to 3 Rhinos as a support choice.

I think the Vermin should be the same... but I need someone willing to test out the Concept...

Take the ISC Iron Mastiffs and you can take even more Necromowers. Up to 8 Necromowers in 960 points. ;D

Not to go down old roads, but I was never content with the support selection criteria.  I think you should be able to mount your entire army if you choose; you should just pay an appropriate cost.  Perhaps transports need to be considered as squad upgrades for certain units rather than support.

Especially Reaver Necrotransports.  They need to be 1 per squad.  Most definitely.

Of course I may have a slight commercial interest in this.

The terrible thing is we have one guy at our table he is doing the same with Faceless and the Mishima Walkers.
Send the suicide hord in the front and fire above with the Ronin Light Battlewalkers.

Not funny at all if you have to face it.

You can get a squad of Faceless for anly 52 Points plus 116 for the two battlewalkers.

Not funny ... to many brave hearts lost in a mess of suicide bombs and bullets... :'(

I play always the Imperial army. My actual forces are depending on the missions.
Look up the following links as examples:

I have to say not one of these battles I won.  :(
But we are already planning our revenge. :D

I never tried so far the Mad Max version with the mass of Necromowers.

-A no normal deployment-force with Arch Primates and Valkyres

- a only 2 Wounds CC Force with Sacred Warrios and Crucifiers

- or a massive Judgement of the Cardinal OBA overkill force including many Valkyres and Elite Troopers for Mystic Exorcist channeling/OBA Backup

Rolls for initiative on who sets up first (choice).

My turn to place first deployment card. I place none and state I am finished with my normal deployment please place your deployment cards. (Watches blood not traveling to opponents face)

Call it "Day of Sentinel" or whatever that x-men episode is...

How did it work out?

I would spread out to ensure no para deploy behind me and move back from deployment zone to avoid the surprise infiltrators. I would look to seriously utilize terrain in my deployment zone also.

Now I think of it... I've done this a few times.... and it was bloody... did it with two systems

UWZ: I did place a few card on the table- all snipers.  the rest were Cartel cops.... and it was harsh.  Taught lessons about protecting flanks in that one.

40k: Pre-5th Ed, I fielded a Deathwing force with everyone Deep Strike, a Ravenguard force with one lone unit of scout snipers and a Drop Trooper list before they changed the codex (again).  Dangerous to play and very very messy in all the games.... Even the losses were fun though most folks have no idea how to face deepstrike- at least back then.

Players have mostly figuredit out now... but with the new outflanking rule, it give me many options to mess with folks.

Archer,

Playing against you is always fun and usually a blood bath as I recall.

Archer,

Playing against you is always fun and usually a blood bath as I recall.

Always for someone... as the mottos for all my armies is "With your shield or on it..." and "Kill it!"
Title: Re: Army Ideas
Post by: luckyone on June 10, 2009, 06:55:04 AM
Usually my mottos are -

"Why don't we put her in charge?"

"There will be plenty of Assault Marine Turtle Shells available after the fight for those who perform well during the battle."

"Where is the Colonel at?"
"He is over there behind the building with his shotgun."
"Why doesn't he join in?"
"We just bring him for the initiative, he doesn't fight because he would have to spend time after the battle to clean his gun."
