Title: Monthly Game Night at Dave's
Post by: dmcgee1 on December 20, 2008, 02:33:29 PM
There has been a large amount of interest from the locals to have a monthly gaming night.  I, too, love the idea.  As it is now, I game at least once a week, but want to involve more folks and more games.  Obviously, I love to play Warzone, and I am interested in playing Chronopia, too.  I am not limiting it to just these two games.  With that in mind:

I am officially announcing the Monthly Game Night at Dave's!

I am opening my house on the third Saturday of every month for gaming.  Obviously, this is the Talaminiatures Forum, so Talaminiatures games will be played more often than not.  I remain open to suggestions and majority-rule.  However, for the first two sessions, I would like to see Warzone then Chronopia.  After that, you choose.

Here is the tentative schedule:

2009
January 17
February 21
March 21
April 18
May 16
June 20
July 18
August 15
September 19
October 17
November 21
December 19

I hope to see you, all, make a few of these.  I can promise fun and good gaming.  Texas Fries are a given, and a few barbeques may just happen to pop up during those months that promote outdoor cooking.

**** PLEASE, STICKY THIS ****

Uhm...while I heartily endorse this idea I must ask your meaning and take slight umbrage the phrase "those months that promote outdoor cooking"

PS - thread is now sticky

I'm a wuss when it comes to the cold, and won't cook outdoors, then.  However, if someone with more skill and more fortitude toward the elements wishes to prepare the food, by all means, let me show you where the grill is!  ;D

Very generous of you Dave.

Now, if only we could get a solid crew in Denver together for similar gaming sessions...

Someone have a brat for me!

On the days that Dave lists step outside your house and put your hand to your ear. Lean east and if you hear someone yelling Hillshire you say Farm.  :D

Hmmm...  Warzone, Chrono are givens...

I'd like to get some B5 goin' against someone and maybe some Check Your 6 fighter duels.  I know Gun Moll will eb interested in that- she is finally working on her Corsairs.

Check the Mongoose Forum, John - B5 is no more.  Like us, they're keeping the system, but will not be using the B5 universe background or ships.

That said, CY6! and A Call to Arms (they're keeping the name of the game), and other games like LoS, SotC, Axis & Allies, Fortress America, Duel of Ages, Car Wars, Infernal Contraption, etc. are all available.  I would not even be averse to a good RPG or poker game.  It's wide open.

Screw Mongoose...  They are concentrating on their Battlefield Evolution line and they'll muck that up like their Starship Trooper game.... then they'll drop it too. :p :p

At least we can keep playing what we are playing.  IIRC, Iron Wind picked the moulds up.

I will try to make it every month. Would be an easy way to test out the boards and your armies for Talamania III.

Due to having made TWO other previous engagements I will not be able to attnd the next game night.  However I will be more than happy to show for the next one.  And I would very much lie to 1) try out Chronopia, and 2) Play test some of the chaos stuff that I have been working on.  The second assumes that by that time Thom or Dave will have the lists pointed as I don't have the Master Rubric and can't point anything.

Well, I can't make this one either.  However, if you like, I can take a look at what you have.

Yeah, about that, Bill...

I was checking the by-laws, and it clearly states that any guy who just pops up outta the blue (yes, it actually says, "outta the blue") needs to admit that David McGee is the greatest guy that ever lived, and that no one plays Warzone better than David McGee.

Once we cross that small hurdle, then you may show up.  ;D

Ah, fine, for you, we throw the book out the window.  See ya there, bud!

It's the pretty lies I like the most THE CROW

Illian my man... if you dig that lie, let me give you another....

You are gonna win the next game we play dude...

See you all as soon as possible.

Soon my dear Colorado friend, soon.  Wish you could have made it out.

Yeah, I have a special project this year as well, and my (limited) vacation time will be spent on something I have wanted to do for a long time.

I am running for the Colorado State Legislature.

Needless to say, I suspect all my spare money and even gaming time may be sacraficed.

However, one of these days, I know I will be in Philly at the right place and time, and hopefully I can meet with some old and new friends.

So, everyone move to Colorado to my State House district, and vote for me!

Yes, I am serious, and will run in 2010.   Between now and then, it will be the typical campaign stuff.  Raise money, bribe officials, raise more money, spend on questionable fact finding studies...  You know, all the usual stuff :D

..and I suspect that I am going to have to pay off everyone who frequents these forums to say nice things about me...and cover up the "never officially acknowledged AI running Amok episode allegations...."    .

Cut some dates and you guys can crash at my house for the Maplewood run. Just have to make sure we are here.

I looked at my Calendar and May 16 looks open, I will talk with Linda and a friend Brian to see if they want to go, I am sure unless I have forgotten something on the date she will want to and Brian is an awesome guy you will love him. He bought a whole Mishima army and has been aching to play it for a while, he will dig you guys.

He is a very good friend of mine, and I would be proud to introduce him to some of the greatest gamers around, (insert expected shot here).
All kidding aside you guys are the best, he will think you guys are the greatest.

fingers crossed for the 16th!

OK..Army versus Navy at Maplewood. Date TBD.

Some ideas.

2K versus 2K 3 people versus 3 people 1 ref (Thom if he wants to)

1 person on each side is the Force Commander the other two are Divisional Commanders. Force commander in charge of dividing units among divisional commanders and deciding activations for his army.

Divisional commanders do all the rolling for their respective units. Time limit on each activation 5 minutes.

This is as far as we got with ideas for the event.

Getting back on subject. I will be at Dave's on the 16th.

Anyone else?
What does everyone want to play?
I am leaning towards
1. Warzone 750 or 1k
2. Cav
3. Poker.

Looking very much forward to the Maplewood run. (in three parsecs)

We should work out the details so we can maximize participation.

We will need alot of help setting up the event. Any and all are welcome to play. Dave, dodger, and I would love to make it. I am sure Phil would like to go and Thom. We should first get a list of people interested.

This is how I think. Maybe we misunderstood it. Does this mean the Army versus Navy classic is on like Donkey Kong on the 16th???

If it is, I need to make sure the loaner figs get to McGee's before then.  Lemme know what the final verdict is so I can ensure what's needed is there.

John, are you bringing Leslie?  Should I pack Chronopia?  I know it's informal at Dave's, but I think having an idea of who's bringing what would help.  I don't want to pack a ton of Chronopia to find no one to play, and conversely bring little if there are players.

I'm pretty sure McGee and Co. will want to play CAV, so I'll bring that and Warzone, but again, if the Army/Navy game is an all day thing, I'd like to know if I should pack those.

Cheers.

Right you are.

If it is the Army/Navy classic part I, I think it is going to last the majority (if not all the day). We could get in games later.

If the Army/Navy classic is delayed to Maplewood, all other games are a go of course.

I personally would like to do the Army/Navy classic. To do this we need enough participants to pull it off. I think 2-6 (plus a ref) is needed. Not enough people have replied to the roll call message on this tread yet.

What do the others planning on the 16th want to do is the key question.

Hello

If you need a player, I will help. I would like to play warzone and chronopia. CAV I will play but prefer the first two. Army navy classic, hmm Dad was navy, Mom was army. So either way I am going to be in trouble. :P

Game on

I think everyone should bring what Capital they have. Dave has other games we can play and poker if it comes to that.

We need to decide who is running each side so they can build their force.

Force comp (Army and Navy classic only) should be:

Max 2 grunt squads (yes max 2 grunts)

Army takes army comp, Navy takes Navy comp

Elites count as grunts towards comp for support (thus the Army versus Navy concept and max 2 grunt squads).

Force commander decides who gets what squad(s) and when each division commander activates.

I am in, anyone else?

My two cents (yes, they are fully refundable):

I suggest postponing the Army v. Navy.  This way, it may be better organized and fun.  Further, I volunteer to referee the contest so as to have an organizer, a governing body for building the respective forces, remain an impartial arbiter, and, ultimately, someone who will witness, scribe and photograph the event.

Let me know if this meets with everyone's approval.

I will bring Warzone. Plan on playing:

Warzone
Cav (borrowed at least until I get the figs)
SOTC
Poker
Whatever else - doesn't matter to me

I can bring extra Imperial for someone to play. I have about everything.

Let me know.

Great playing you again Josh! I had a lot of shall I say "lucky" rolls in both games.

Changing your tactics in the second game thru me off a lot.

I am not used to "assaulting" with the assault marines. I think more shots with your off board would work. If you had another forward observer, I could not sit and wait on you because I would have a ton of offboard landing on me. Just a thought.

Hope to see everyone at the next Gaming Day at Dave's.

Had a blast with everyone. SOTC, Munchkin board game and Warzone all in the same day. Can't ask for more.

What a great Saturday at Dave's.

Dave was decked out in his 70's motif (at least his tache was).

Got in a game versus Dragon. I'll let Dragon tell how it went.

Let's just say my nickname applied to my dice rolls - all of them.

Still an awesome time and always great to play.

Took a road trip to "Between books"

Ate some great food at Dave's.

I had to leave in the middle of the first CAV game.

I heard the rest of the night was awesome also.

Car loaded last night. I am bringing all of my terrain and foldable table of doom.

I also pick up the shirt Tom painted for me for my fantasy football team - The Bruise Brothers

The Chariot had a little accident while loading into the foam carrying case and Geico was called. Needless to say the reveal date will be pushed to next month. I will post pictures as soon as the glue dries.

Pushin' pewter and rolling dice is what it is all about.

Lucky1 is on the loose tonight.

Great weekend! Got in several games.

Warzone is awesome in itself, but playing with environment and objectives makes it even awesomer.

Agreed.  The Swamp itself killed more of me and Phil than we did to each other.  Only five Devout out of something like 34 managed to escape to the wall.  Alas the rest are composting now.  Kudos to Phil for the Japanese Zero Drone impersonator. What moxie!!  Had a great time and got to see Lance rendered speechless which has not happened in recorded memory (well except for that incident at Anthro-Con at the Adams Mark in 2001).  Happy B-Day again.  Sean, awesome models!!  Timothy, inspiring terrain!!

Yes saturday was alot of fun. I'd like to thank Tim for 2 great games of Warzone and for Thom for an outragiously fun chronopia game based on the Devil's Garden (The Deepest, thickest, and most dangerous part of the swamp). We used a warzone style envionmental rules and it was brutal. As thom stated the board killed more than we did. And as always I'd like to thank Dave for having the Gameday.

****  ATTENTION  ****    ****  ATTENTION  ****

Gaming Day at Dave's on the 17th of April, 2010 is canceled.  We are, still, in the midst of construction getting the basement ready for Talamania.  Any who were planning to attend Game Day may still come and help with the project.

Thanks.

We'll see you all in May (some sooner, I'm sure ;D)

Dave,

I will be there on Saturday afternoon to help. I am bringing the terrain for Talamania of course and the books I borrowed.

What tools do you need me to bring?

Title: Re: Monthly Game Night at Dave's

No tools needed, that I can think of.

I will have the majority of construction done, hopefully, by Saturday.  It is the destruction that will need to be completed.

If time and money permit, perhaps we'll be putting in the toilet on Saturday.

There will be so much more room to game/Talamania soon.

You can almost play floor hockey down there.

Hello, all,

I have finally gotten around to creating this group for all of us, and thought, "What better way to let good gamers and the boys from Maplewood know?"  http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/155137997907697/ (http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/155137997907697/)

This Saturday (Sept 17, 2011) is the next scheduled date, and we should all be recovered from Talamania, by now (even you, Garcia). If another date would be better, let me know.

I would like to start getting a regular schedule of games, too. I suggest we put together a list, and then choose the major game or two for the given month (does not have to be written in stone), leaving room for pickup games and free gaming for those who wish to just join the group to socialize.

With that said, for this week, I am recommending Firestorm: Armada and/or Silent Death. I am open to suggestions, and we'll put it to a vote before Thursday so that folks have a bit of time to prepare.

Also, I would like to discuss making our group somewhat official. There are several great resources out there that would allow us to stay in communication, publicly, and would increase our visibility to new players and established groups. One of these is Meetup. Some of you already know of this, while other may wish to check it out. What Facebook is to the individual, Meetup is for groups. Also, as Google+ develops, I do expect it to become an excellent application for our group, not to mention Google Docs, Gmail, etc. If we decide that we wish to start making our group a bit more organized, and such, I suggest that we add a little structure to it, e.g., an official name, leadership including a board with a chair and a treasurer. Obviously, with a treasurer, I envision dues for regular participants, and envision these dues being used for the group, including new games, accessories, etc. Obviously, I am perfectly okay with keeping things the way that they are, currently - this is merely a suggestion; if we, as a group, do not wish to go in this direction, then we shouldn't.

In any case, I look forward to seeing you all real soon.

Sorry about that bro, hey at least think about this, you actually didn't order cards, so for your patience you got a pair for free. It was very hairy getting stuff done at the end.

Sigh, thanks for noting this to me, I would have felt like a dope blowing this off and then having you ask me at Talllimania. Hell, I'll make you a named one for the messup.

I will be there Saturday. I will bring x-wing and some other stuff. Not sure what time we are all meeting (depends on Dave's schedule that day).

November's Gaming Day will see me working, that day.

You are, all, welcomed to start gaming earlier, here, but I will not be able to join you prior to 6:30, or so.

The April date is the same weekend as Easter. If we move it (Thom - taxes and maybe others can't attend).

April 12th works better for me. Just thinking ahead.

Of course your call.

Sounds like a plan.  Perhaps March 29th or April 5th.  Anyone else?

The 29th is bad for me. Not sure about the 5th. We won't see Thom until tax season is finished. Whatever works best for you. Right now the 12th is a go for me.

This weekend (the 12th) is a go for me still.

Dave - do you have to work on Saturday?

If so I will be there in the evening (around 630ish)

If not I can make it up in the afternoon.
