D'oh I thought I had missed another friend's Birthday and then I find out it isn't til Saturday. When it comes Coil, I hope you have a great day. Be safe but get out of the house and have a good time. I look forward to seeing you again at either a future Talamania, Origins or GenCon. Who knows - maybe someday I will get myself across the big puddle and you can show me around a Euro-Con.

Who me??? I'm just this shy lil guy from Southern Illinois who has led a sheltered life. ;)

I was going to make a rather sardonic reference, but decided that it was already inferred, by most. A poor attempt at humor, at best. ;D

Sorry Mel but the Conservatives just won the elections in Canada. Looks like you'll just have to stay in California. Heck I doubt if San Fran and vicinity even notice if McCain wins - they are their own lil world ;)
-
OK everyone, so far we have:
1. Booty - I will not comment for fear of reprisals, thinking with my big head
2. "sheltered" - Topkick and sheltered, where can I go with that ... hmmm
3. blame Dave - Coffee boy gone bad
4. band camp - Where did you put that Dave?
4. blame Canada - Southpark, need I say more
5. McCain - With an army behind you, you can become quite poitical.
6. San Fransissyco

And in spite of all the potential for offense we are having a good time talking and joshing with one another with no rancor. Gives me hope we will get thru all this after all.

Rancor...as in the pit monster from Return of the Jedi?
-
Cloe enough for government debate
-
And yet another one to add to the list. I love it.

Bah! Ya, i need to move to San Fran.. i'd be more at ease there anyway.
Mel
ps Rancor? geez hopefully we don't have too many more SW references LOL

Frisco is a great place but trying to make enouh money to afford the cost of living is a pain. I have a friend in Sna Jose. Her and her husband keep trying ot tempt me into moving there.

Ya, i used to have a cousin that lived there and he and his wife just found it almost unbareably expensive.

I like pie!
...and I have been to Canada. Be sure not to call them the 51st state, they really hate that!
Up, Up With People! You meet em wherever you go...
-
Now you've done it! Here we are having a nice discussion and you had to bring it up. You just had to didn't you. Went and ruined an entire conversation by mentioning pie. How dare you?!! Everyone knows that cobbler rules!!!!!!! ;D
-
Cobler is very good, but my personal favorite is raisin pie. It is pretty easy to make - pie crust, soak raisins, sugar, spices and walnuts.
Mmm pie.
-
AAAAGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See how it spreads?!! Soon everyone will chime in with their favorte pie and poor cobbler wil be forgotten. Who loves the cobbler? Is there no one else? ;D
-
Well, there is Blackberry Cobbler....
I'll have both pie and cobbler!
...but we should ask Coil if he likes pie or cobbler better. Of course, he might like torte, and this conversation will truly have devolved!
-

I'm with Hal - PeachCobbler, Cherry Cobbler - mmmmmmmmm, Cobbler. I still don't know what the Cobbler's got to do with a monkey chasing a weasel, but...oh wait...where was I going with that....oh, yeah - PHILS ARE NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPS AND HEADED TO THE WORLD SERIES - WOOT! (Still don't know how that bench fits in, though - POP! Friggin' weasel...)
-
See Dave knows how to tie it all together - Hot dogs, apple cobbler, and Chevrolet. ;D
-
DON'T FORGET BASEBALL! (oh, wait - you insinuated that, didn't you?)
-
Happy Birthday Coi!
As for me, my favorite is Apple cobbler but you know some folks call cobbler, Deep Dish Pie.

Blasphemy! :o
-
Personally, I don't care what you call it, just be sure to call me before it gets too cold. I like my cobblers warm with vanilla ice cream.
-
Cobbler????
I prefer Boston cream pie
-

Boston Cream Pie is just cake that is slummin' ;) ;D

I had to look in Wikipedia to see what the difference was between cobbler and pie. Looking at those pictures I prefer my apples to be in a cobbler, although a tart Tatin can be quite nice as well.
I make a rather nice lemon pie myself or maybe it is a tart/torte.
-
Isn't a tart just the little pie that couldn't?
-
I like both, but prefer warm peach cobbler with homemade vanilla ice cream. Still, I have to say that pies are much more versatile than cobblers...kind of like a switch-hitter in baseball (to remain current with American events). Could you imagine a chicken pot cobbler? How about a steak and cheese cobbler? Pizza is also a pie...if we use Seamus' thought that cobbler is deep dish pie, then it pizza works for both.
-
OMG, this conversation is going so wrong. Any minute we are going to start in on the pizza vs calzone debate!
Shame on you all!
-
Bah-it's just covered pizza! At least that what Sbarro's tells me!
-

No, a Tart is a... *coughs* Never mind. This is a Family Forum. :o

QFT so very VERY true... i miss chicago :(

I immediately thought of that scene from "American Pie."
-
There's no pizza scene in "American Pie"-oh, uh nevermind.

It was edited out as too racy for the R rating of the movie... :o

How is a former Chicago girl survivng in Northern California? There isn't a stuffed pizza or slider in sight.
-
Chicago also has:
The best bratwurst anywhere
Taste of Chicago - pretty much anything there

TRUST me, it's not easy! LOL aww man! sliders!! I miss white castle as well.... On the plus side it never gets cold enough here for me to wear a coat LOL
As for sports while i'm not a HUGE sports fan Cubbies are not on my families radar... my father has followed the Dodgers since Brooklyn...(no i haven't talked to him since well..you know...) And for football, while i do like the Bears... for some reason I follow the Seahawks (dons flame-proof suit) I know i know i am ready to give up this season LOL
Mel
Ya I'm not your typical girl! :P
-
@Topkick---There is a lil' town about 30 minutes away form me called Golden City. Population about 175. Its near a lake and has a nice little cafe thats famous around these parts for 2 reasons. Great ham, and PIE!!!!! THey have a whole display case, around 15 feet long and 3 shelves with around 40+ varieties of PIE!!! They even have Ru-dah-bey-ga. ;D If you ever get this way, I'll be sure to take ya there and you can Pie-out.

I've heard you can get a 30 pack and have them frozen and shipped. The Stuffed Pizza might be tougher although I had a girl bring me a frozen one on a plane when i was stationed at Ft Bragg. I still got friends in Chi-town - Want me to look into the possibility?

It's not cobbler but it's a deal. Might combine a trip to the 4 Staters turf with Recruits in KC.
-
It sounds to me like the next Talamania wont be about gaming, it'll be about pies.
Talamania 3 - The great bake off :D
-
I've seen Three Stooges shows that start off as a "bake-off" - Talamania 3 may require blast sheilding. ;D
-
But Dave, I'm a victim of coicomstance - nyuk, nyuk, nyuk
-
Oh, a wise guy, eh? Pick two.
-
one...two
-
one...two
How many lumps do you want??
-
Coil, aren't you glad all this stemmed from wishing you a happy b-day?
You know, KC has Tippin's pies, so if ya'll are comin' ta Recruits, ya'll can have yer pie and eat it too! Was that Midwest twangy enough?
-
See Topkick as Agent 014 at Recruits in Live and Let Pie. If you want to stop my pie madness then figure out the reason I call myself Agent 014 ;)

Twice as good as 007?
-
:o You guys are nuts! ;D Pecan anyone?
-
I'd love some pecan pie but the Doc says I can't have it and besides I have to stop - Dave got it right. I guess I'll just start my new career as either a double naught spy or a frycook.
-

Did someone say frycook?
Ding fries are done, ding fries are done.
-
"There's room to move as a frycook." ;D
Coil's Birthday thread has now gone into movie trivia.
-
Actrually the 014 being twice as smart as 007 is from Gilligan's Island and the double naught spy or a fry-cook bit is from Jethro Bodine on The Beverly Hillbillies

Midwest twangy? Try southern twangy.. i don't know anyone from the area i am from that has a southern accent... maybe once you get down into missouri they do but not Iowa, illinois, etc
Mel

You can take the girl out of Illinois but you can't take Illinois out of the girl ;)

So true... Oh, by the way, ya think Coil enjoys his B-day thread becoming a Cluster**** of different subjects? LOL
Mel
-
I don't believe Coil would mind one bit, at all.
-
We go way back with Andreas. He's one cool cat.
-
I actually asked him and he thinks it's a hoot.
-
So Mel you ex-military? Rare to see a civilian to understand the nuances of how to use the term cluster**** properly in a sentence.
-

Ahh, you are from the Upper Midwest, not the true Midwest. Missouri is interesting in that the farther south you go, the more Southern it sounds. So northern Missourians sound more Upper Midwest and southern Missourians sound more like they are from Arkansas and Oklahoma. Southern Missourians say Missour-uh, while northern say Missour-ee. All this has something to do with the Mason-Dixon Line, I'm sure.
