Title: Warzone (Mutant Chronicles) movie trailer & update
Post by: Alxbates on July 03, 2008, 03:18:15 PM
Well, I'm not a Warzone player at all (generally, I don't play any sci-fi or modern games at all - strictly an ancients and fantasy guy), but Aintitcool posted this, and I figured I'd pass the link along:

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37312

The trailer is right here:

http://www.thomasjane.com/mutantChronicles/

It doesn't look like a straight-up adaptation of the game/RPG setting at all, but you can definitely see some inspiration there.  Doesn't look too bad, I think I'm cautiously optimistic for this to be a good low-budget sci fi flick.  It might even inspire some folks who are normally non-gamers to check it out.

More realistically, it might remind some gamers who don't currently play the game that it exists and is worth their time and interest.

Hello

I think that a movie that will go straight to video and doesn't even remotely resemble the game/world setting that spawned it will do little to generate interest. Sorry but I will pass.

I'll disagree with Bill, on thi, respectfully.

It looks pretty good, and I would like to see the final product.

It appears that they have taken artistic license.  It appears that it is not your father's Warzone.  But, neither was the new Battlestar Galactica.  Battlestar Galactica wound up being better than the original series - by far.  I will give this a chance (though the CMG can kiss my Irish posterior end).  The cinematics look cool, and it appears that the genre is there, even if it is not completely how we all know it.  I'll admit that I was never one who was much for the fluff - I was in it for the game - therefore, I may not be the best judge.

Who knows, it might be good.  It might generate more interest in our game.  It might not be or do either.  I'll see it before I pass judgement.

I'll probably end up seeing it.  I hold no great hopes and I am dissappointed that it won't be true Warzone.  But it might turn out to be a decent flic.

Am VERY sceptic about this production...
many plot changes and other things make me very suspicious about the final movie

hope to be wrong...

but till then...

Am still watching "Ghosts Of Mars" ;)... Besides, Carpenter was signed to be the director of the 1st,never finished, MC movie!
(watching this movie, I always find HUGE similarities with the Mc universe, even the Cartel n' the weapons of Semai r there!)

You nailed it.  John Carpenter retooled his own movie out of the mess, and he did a good job on that one.  I like his films.

I agree. I say the proof is in the pudding. I wouln't mind seeing it. If someone sees it, likes it, googles it they may find us and start to play. Who knows. How does anyone get a start in our hobby if they don't have someone to expose them to it?

What if Scifi did the MC universe like they did BG? I can only hope. It would be interesting IMHO.

Well, I watched it, and yeah, it managed to hit the interwebs already.  But anyways, having very little exposure to the MC universe, it was a very dark moody film, filled with mass amounts of explosions and gritty gory death.  So I liked it for what it was.  The Bone-blade things were crap though, what the heck were they thinking.  So yeah, taken as a interesting Sci-Fi, I enjoyed it a lot.  My wife didn't though, but then I did not expect her to.

Thomas Jane regarding the leaked unfinished version on the Raw Studios forum.

"f**k em all, it's like catching a belly dancer take a sh*t backstage, might be free, but it's definitely not what she came for."

then he posted a new MC poster.

okay...

now if I'm wrong, please correct me...

isn't Thomas Jane supposed to be Mitch Hunter...because that poster really looks like the Punisher...Hunter was supposed to be a military officer, right?...

I'm confused now...

He's wearing a brown overcoat.

And personally, watching that made me want to go see the film in theatres.  I really think it was done on purpose to drum up interest.  No wi plan to sap all my friends into going to watch it, great film.

Classically Hunter was a Sea Lion or Polar Trident.  Of course, classically he had shoulder pads, Mars, Venus, Mercury were terraformed, there was a fifth Megacorporation, Earth was abandoned....

Considering I've actually seen this movie. Yes this movie is more like a story about right before the Corps leave Earth, and an adaptation of the MC backstory universe.

It is a decent movie. I liked it, and no I don't think the actors will win Oscar nods for the movie. Its a fairly medium-budget movie. It's not low-budget nor high. Like a really good B-movie, like B+.

The zombie/mutant guys are pretty deadly actually.

Glad they made the movie. I had fun watching it. I say support it and rent it on DVD if you don't see it at the movies. Oh, and Mitch is a sgt in the Capitol forces, not an officer yet the movie takes place in the MC universe's past before they go to Mars and considering the role he plays at the end of the movie, perhaps he got a promotion to officer if they ever made a part 2 to become the Colonel Mitch Hunter you all know and love.

I think they still have to make it to part 1 first.

I watched the movie. Overall, I agree with what others have said. It's a decent movie. The characters names are tied to warzone so that's a plus. The Dark Legion are nasty but different from what we know. The Great Machine is a little strange. Personally, anything that drums up interest in Warzone is a good thing.

Thanks,

John

I just watched the movie.  I liked it.  It was, for all intents and purposes, Seige of the Citadel, with a precursor to the UWZ Universe.  Watch it, enjoy it for what it is.

Finaly, I got in my hands a copy of the movie, throught a torrent.
I was actualy one of the many fans of mc universe that were very sceptic about this movie, the changes in plot, delays etc were the main reasons...

Have seen the movie now, can say THAT IT IS NOT A BAD MOVIE AT ALL!!!
ok, not an oscar movie Smiley etc but very gud for its category, lot of action, gud plot n' not really bad acting from known actors...

In some instances, it also reminds me mc universe (especialy in the opening trench warfare...)

Althought,I STILL wait for a TRUE MC movie (story n' everything)

Gud day to everyone

Because it's MC....and I want to see it badly, I've been very tempted to snag a copy of this, burn it to DVD and watch it. I'm fighting with myself....because seeing it in the theatre on the big screen may well make it more enjoyable. Anyone made a DVD and watched it on a bigscreen at home? How did it look....

....struggle.....struggle.....

only a wild guess..   (http://www.tabletopwelt.de/forum/images/smilies/geheimtip.gif)  (http://www.tabletopwelt.de/forum/images/smilies/smileybunny1.gif)

@movie: watched it and liked it.

of course the "conclusion" is a bit forced, but hey, itīs fate (prophecy), after all...

also, i canīt wait for part II !

(only my imperial-playing fanatic friend bitched around the whole time "they confused capitol with imperial, these are trenchers, the black looks like capitol, not imperial, man, i want to see imperial, these where trenchers,...")

i must also say: capitol in whole europe, and bauhaus basically russien border?
-> no herr hauptman & kapitän, these would be capitol, yet the bauhaus spoke (much to my viewing pleasure) german (http://www.tabletopwelt.de/forum/images/smilies/king2.gif)

Anyone made a DVD and watched it on a bigscreen at home? How did it look....
i saw it on ~80 cm diameter..

it has some nice scenes, but itīs not super stunning like LOTR...
some warzone fighting in the beginning, but later less mass-scenes.

of course better on the cinema, but itīs not a must see in the cinema, imho.
(even though i liked the movie, even before the +10 mc bonus :))

#BUMP#

Quote from Tom Jane on the Raw Forum 9th of Dec.

"Simon Hunter tells me he is now working on finishing the edit of the film. great news. we're still waiting on word from Magnolia just what there plans are for the April release. TJ"

Some editing changes can make a world of difference... I honestly enjoyed the leaked version though! High re-playability for my part. The city/world (miniatures) reminded me alot of Dark City/The Crow, and I'm sure that's a big influence on the director. The things that worked in the movie, worked big time. Clever editing, combined with creative and solid cinematography made many scenes outshine some of the best sci-fi's out there.

Looking forward to seeing the finished version next year. Pretty messed up situation that they have shown it in the cinema in Europe and even released a DVD in Germany. Pretty low...

The movie was...okay.  It could seriously use the editing.  I thought some of the acting was horrible (John Malkovich).  The 'creatures' and some of the plot remind me of the much-anticipated new horror/sci-fi game Dead Space (DS).

Creature similarities: Spike things coming from the hands/arms, teeth aplenty, predominantly bald heads, relentless attacks.  Creatures created via killed or nearly dead humans.

Plot similarities: DS was prefaced by a multi-part web-based comic series that showed colonists on a remote planet finding a large, black citadel spire that closely resembles the predominant religion's icon.  They remove the spire and notify their parent company of the discovery.  That's when bad stuf happens to the colonists and they are...changed.  Fastforward to the cartoon movie Dead Space: Downfall, which features the ship that carries the spire from the planet back toward earth.  Needless to say, everyone dies on the ship and it's infested with hostiles.  The video game picks up at the end of the movie with a vessel asking for docking clearance.
Sweet demo for the game, BTW.  Eerie, hard and fun.

There are a lot of similarities to MC, such as breaking the seal on Nero unleashing the DL onto humanity, the church is involved and man's struggle to contain the "contagion".

Oh, how I wish MC had this sort of marketing!!!

Ya, ditto! I have not heard of this NOW i will lool it up.

Mel

ps as for thr MC movie i have seen it as well, and while i liked it... the dialouge was pretty bad in parts.  I would love to see another more akin to the warzone universe with people from the different corps wearing the themed unis, and BROTHERHOOD!!! Inquisitors, morts, keepers, and of course my two fave people Nik and Crenshaw..although Laura is pretty cool too :P

Mel (again)

Love what I've seen so far! Get the whole Event Horizon feel actually..

Back on MC discussion though.

OK. Yeah, I agree with the dialogue being a bit "cardboard", but as long as there's some good ol violence and sci-fi action, that stuff doesn't ruin anything for me. But we should have had more background info on the different characters. In the book you have at least more "build up" around the characters, and it is more clearly set in the MC universe. Just from a fan point of view though.

Said it before, and I say it again. The MC world needs a kick ass computer game to really shine, not a movie.
