I was just looking at the quickstart rules for this game, and it sounds like a cross between Chronopia and Warzone!! The mechanics are virtually the same for activations of units/leaders, and you want to roll 1's. The models certainly are cool, but before I get another game with potentially no one to play with, has anyone played this?

I've played the first verison of this game a few years back.
havent tried it since.
The models are pretty sweet.
been sitting on the fence on this game for awhile.

Admittedly, the models rock. If anyone had the means to buy the Chronopia IP outright, and redo the whole line, models like the Dark Age ones should be a benchmark to compare anything new to.
Same for Warzone.
All of us fans of our games are pretty content with the line, considering it came out ten years ago. I think a good sculpt is a good sculpt, regardless of when it comes out, and many from Chronopia and Warzone still hold up. I can't say that about every one, but on the whole, painted up, they aren't so bad.
My pewter pile of shame doesn't need another game to add to it, but it is tempting. Matt Gubser mentioned it a while back as being similar to our games.

The ppl who formulated the rules were IIRC former members of one of the Warzone Forum incarnations and left to help design and promote the game because they liked the art the figs were based on and had issues with certain forum members at that time.

Have a gander at these and tell me it's not the same game as Chronopia/Warzone, in essence.

If anything, I'd say it's more streamlined than Chronopia and Warzone. Those two games, along with VOR were mentioned as strong developmental influences.
@PFC Joe- You're absolutely right. When the company started up, their goal was to maintain many of the poses of Brom's paintings into the figures in order to appeal to Brom fans who may not otherwise be into mini games. Bad idea since a lot of Brom's stuff is basically just people standing around doing nothing. Many of the old static figs are being redone more dynamically, so we've probably seen the end of the static trend. Raze for example:

Good news is that a 500 point army for dark age will only cost you $30-$50 bucks. It's not an expensive game to get into. I was able to pick up 750 points of Brood and a rulebook for about $70 before I started sculpting for them.

Hey Matt, I've only seen the quickstart rules, so thanks for the synopsis. My unpainted lead is shameful, so I don't think I'll give it a go, unless I sell off my Warlord junk; that game just ain't doin' it for me.

I've always loved the "father" skarred figure.

Time Warp Comics has a few Dark Ages minis. They are quite sweet.
