Am I the only that Applauds a good comment (frequently)? Very rarely, I will use the Smite, but only if it is, truly, deserved. If it makes me a Karma-whore to ask, so be it. I try to Applaud any decent comment in the hopes of driving dialogue, but, my Karma has not moved in a year. (I know - Let the Smiting begin!) I know that I am asking for it, but, seriously, isn't it there to show acceptance and approval, thereby encouraging positive discussion and growth of the community?
-
I personally have never used it but here's my 1st for your posted apology under New Consept. You deserve a Karma point for that. Thanks Phil
-
well.... what does it mean?
for some reasons I got a -3!?
a pity, perhaps, but I donīt feel bad about myself, which wonīt change because some smiting... so wereīs the point?
if, however, someone complains to me and tells me of a mistake, I am willing to think about.
some anonymouse (and imho cowardly) smiting is really an uninteresting feedback.
=> I like phrased out critic and donīt care for smiting
(I would say its counterproductive, also, because it is a very unreliable characterisation of a person.. in addition, it stays forever, even if the "fair reason" to apply it is long forgotten..)
cheers
-
I honestly had forgotten about it. Ive used it a couple of times during discussions both positive and negative in the past. I feel its only cowardly to use it if you dont voice your displeasure in a comment or discussion first. But IMO its a good paoint to look at a persons karma before jumping into a discussion with them. If they have alot of negatives I wont chime in. Thats just my two cents.
-
Cowardly attacks are the best kind!
(that's gonna cost me some Karma!)
-

well.. if I would critic someone and there is a constuctive discussion, I would not smite him.. that would be the optimum..
but honestly: all the -X points I see here and there: was there really a conversation beforehand? I have (up to now) -3 and there was only one "arguing", and even that was quite educated..
You may only smite after a decent communication attempt, but that does not seem to be the general case..
=> I donīt like this forum-feature.
cheers
P.S. in my "main" forum, they disabled the posting-counter to prevent "elite-thinking..."

I have smitten, in the past, and will do so again, if I feel it necessary. But, like everyone else, here, seems to feel, I would not do it without explanation. Unfortunately, it is not removable, and I am guilty of one of Aldrien's smites, and I believe that he remebers the thread.
Once again, let me take this opportunity for having a quick trigger finger, Aldrien. Since I've seen more of your posts, I've come to realize that you are insightful and have the best of intents. I will strive to be more undersstanding, rather than critical, of your posts, in the future.
-
I think we all should, before smitying someone take a step back. I know that alot of the "heated" debates have actually occured because of a language barrier. Many of our participants dont speak english as a first language, which leads to <sometimes> unclear statements. Even those of us who do speak english cant seem to get our points across clearly all the time. Thats why I recommend at least stating your objections/disagreements before laying the smack down.
-
Well said, Bryon.

In a number of posts I've stated I'd hit the karma button, always favorably. I think a post saying what you're doing (and why) before giving the smite would be equally good. I don't even have a user name; it keeps me from writing anything that I wouldn't say to someone's face.
So Dave, I'm going to hit the good karma on ya' because your participation in the tourney last month, and keeping our community alive. I'm also going to hit the smite, so it doesn't all go to your head, and you can feel a Zen-like balance today.
Cheers.
-
Nice - I appreciate the grounding, buddy. ;)
-
I'm actually going to hit the applaud button now. You've been grounded long enough.
-
Awwww! Group Hug! :D
Remember kids, it's not the size of your Karma, it's how you swing it ... err or something. ;)
-
I give +1 to veez, because he has -5 :o
he seems to be a nice guy and he paints/converts well!
an example and motivation, not at least through the painting reports!
-
I use them but not as much as I used to
-
I also use it occasionally if the poster does something which I consider positive in term of the games, like a link to alternative minis, a good idea or comment, etc...
Greetings,
Catinator

I will admit I'm not above the occasional smackdown for soneone who is unable to present an argument in a calm manner--I would expect the same out of others. That said, I also like to applaud relevant work such as a fantastic paint scheme or a particularly good idea.
-
old toppic, but i feel annoyed..
i just got my -8 karma and no comment on why....
so, why??
did i again insult someone?
was my style of argumenting (recently) annoying?
or did i just do too much (rather time conuming) research for that bayonet-thead? or what else??
cuīs

Hello
I cannot say why you are at negative 8 but I can tell you why you are now at negative 9 . The reasons are, 1 your course and insulting tone towards two members of this forum. 2 Being deliberately dismissive of Archer a soldier who would know more about bayonets and body armor than you and wiki combined. 3 Your petty smiting of Dave McGee because he didn,t simply agree with you. IF you want to take slams at respected members of this forum I will sound off on it.

Bill...
Thanks for the defense.
I've no issue with our resident Kraut. We were having a discussion and I've no issue personally with him... He is simply a direct individual and I appreciate that- even when the subject being commented on is fustrating the hell out of me. :)
Make nice and give him an appalud. You did not have to smite the man. If I was offended, I'd have done it.

please quote me where i had an insulting tone?
i was not aware of that. i never wrote someting like "you are too stupid" or something like that.
perhaps i used bad phrasings sometimes, but i want to state here:
i donīt want to insult someone. if anyone does not like my tone PLEASE let me know.
in 99% it will not be my intention!!!
i will edit out everything that is insulting!
also, i was not aware that i specifically do that to two members!
2 Being deliberately dismissive of Archer a soldier who would know more about batonets and body armor than you and wiki combined.
that may be true.
but it was not only wiki, but a PHD on arrows (link, see thread), several more webpages and a book about medival weapons.
3 Your petty smiting of Dave McGee because he didn,t simply agree with you. IF you want to take slams at respected members of this forum I will sound off on it.
i donīt smite ppl for not agreeing. never.
i find your smite not correct, but so be it. i wonīt return the favor..

Now I applaud that. And have done so.

in Aldrien's defence I think people forget that english is not his frist language and that comes
off at being...Very Direct at times. Plus sometimes ones intent is hard to come across in the written word.
I never thought badly of Aldrien. In fact anytime he thought he was outline he went out of his way to say sorry.
For the record my grandmother speaks very broken english and I know how hard it is for her at times to get ideas across or understand others. Let alone to write it down.

The only problems I have with the whole smite system is that they dont go away. Its like a bad rep. Once you get it, no matter what else you do, someone or thing is always there to remind you. Also if you are going to leave a smite or applaud you should have to at least leave a brief comment or have your name logged so that it can open a discussion one way or another.

Amen

Amen
You mean you and I agree on something? ??? ;D

That's why I like it-because now I'm a bad boy and chicks dig bad boys so now I can go cruizin' down the street with my wifi laptop showin' off my bad karma and women will flock to it like a babe magnet.
Or not.
-
what shall i do?
applaud for this comment or smite you, to support your cause?
its your choise

Hello
Archer, I am sorry if the post is causing problems. I will do as you ask . I will also opologize to Aldrien . But I stand on my statement about to forum members, I am a Veterans son so I have a high regard for our veterans. Peace.

Veez, you go with your bad self! Chicks always dig guys with sleek, top-shelf laptops. The bad karma, on the other hand, gives you a come-hither look and a smile. Which leads to a faster heart rate and a great sense of well being and ego.
In the end, its all about getting the chicks. ;D ;D

I've always enjoyed posting on this board not only because I personally know some good people I have met and gamed with (Jibba, Masher, Dragon, Archer, Wmeredith, Philly Sniper, DMcgee, and if I miss anyone, my apologies) but also the forum has a very friendly, intelligent, rational atmosphere. The posts, despite being very heated at times, are just intense, passionate discourse. If you take this message board media and have all of us, in person, in a stadium talking to each other, we would all look like philosophers passionately talking about topics we love. We definately aren't goons insulting and hurting each other at a moments notice. This forum is filled with intelligent, mature, and rational discussions (albeit tongue in cheek sometimes.) and the way I look at it, there are no verbal fistfights and personal insults flung about. Just look at other gaming boards and one would see the difference. We, collectively as forum members of this wonderful board, are comrade in arms and we rock!

Ok... I passed on some love too! :-*

I'll second this notion!
