Title: Goblin Lowdown
Post by: DogOWar on August 22, 2006, 10:12:48 AM
I was wondering, since I just aquired a bunch, how well the goblins do on the field of battle?  Specifically the swordmasters and crimson blades.  I know the minis look cool but can the swordmasters really help your army out ?  I know they have secondary attack, but they do LOW damage, can anybody help me out here?

So,

You were the one that bought that huge lot of Blackbloods!

The swordmaster is fun to play with but u'll probabaly have a better chance of killing something the the crimson blade.

I've always found that goblins make funny noises when my Elve skewer them with arrows...

NEVER underestimate the Goblins.  The swordmasters can roll on a 1 on their secondary attack just as easily as any other model, and sometimes they perform admirably.  Admittedly, they don't do a lot of damage and can also crap out against heavily armored Dwarves or Elves.  An all Goblin force would mix some Crimson blades to strike from hidden after your swordmasters start goin' in first.  And the Goblin Spearmen (Group Attack!) can bring down anything on the board.  Your Ripper Beast Lancers are going to impale for damage too, but people always make the mistake of using them unsupported.  I've heard tales of the all Goblin Blackblood force being a thing to be reckoned with; I'd like to game against them sometime, just to see how they all operate together.  And think of the swarm!

Cheers.

Thanks for the link masher.  I really dig the story line you and Panda put together.  Did you guys ever have another battle, if so how did it go?  I have to say getting on this forum is really getting me fired up to play.

sadly no.
2 reasons
1. Warzone has been eatting a large amout of our gaming time
(along with blood bowl, necromunda, battlefleet gothic, number of other games I have.)
Their might be more chronopia players coming to the store. This might tear us away from warzone long enough to play.  ;)

2. I bought out all the ripper beast that maplewood has and my list tops out at 500pts. Hopeing one day to get somemore so I can ge up too 1000pts and do a proper battle.

Panda and I had alot fun with that game. It is on My To Do List of things I will get back to.

and if you like this story, have you read the MAPLEWOOD WARZONE SAGA in the "warzone: events, battlereports" on this forum.  ;D

Masher, just finished the Maplewood warzone.  Damn good stuff my man, I enjoyed it immensely.  I really dig battle reports.  My wife likes to make fun of me when I take alot of time writing scenarios for chronopia or backgrounds for rpg(s) that I run.  To me, its hard not to, it really gets me into the game.

ha ha another fan is made :P

writing up the saga has given a new way to enjoy game though writing and creative scenerio making.
I agree its really good way to built that urge to play.
Also get a kick when other people get some enjoyment from it too  8)

Must spent up to 400 + dollars on warzone and thanks to the saga and the people I play with its been one the best game investments I ever made (and I'm not big fan of the game fluff too boot).

Just wanted to know if there are any other kick @ss battle reports out there?  I would love to check them out.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     I just got off work(a 12 hr day, uuuuuggggghhhh!) reached in to one of 10 giant bookcases and pulled out my old friend Chronopia ( aahhhh, that felt good).  I think while the wife and kid are sound asleep I'll start designing a campaign for me and my buds to play.  Damn, I got so excited I spilt my beer ( Mickey's), what a waste.   :'(      Any one have any scenario suggestions?  I was thinking of basing it in the Lands of Flame.

Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOPKICK!

@DogOWar--what armies are you runnin'?  I posted my scenario "Where Vultures Dare" as a mesa top battle perfect for a desert clime.  We enthusiasts would be happy to come up with more ideas based on what you wanted to play, eg specific armies and size of battles.  Cheers.

Hey Josh,

At the moment, I'm playing House Helios.  I have 2 ohter buds that game with me( hope to have more soon).  One plays House of Crystal Lotus and the other has a large Firstborn army.  For this campaign  I want to play Elves vs. Firstborn.  I would like to tie several scenarios into a campaign, maybe even using campaign rules in 2nd edition.  I read your report on " Where Vultures Dare", I thought it was pretty cool not to mention imaginative.  I would appreciate any suggestions.

easiest way to do it is play variations of the scenario in the main book at first. Mix in different enviroment effects and campaign rules. The enviromental rules, I always thought, were one of Warzone/Choronpia strongest features.
do this to get your feet wet and get your group really into playing.

write battle reports, talk lots of smack, have fun.

masherking is right.  Start with the Desert Effects right out of the book.  Always make sure you have enough terrain set up to provide cover and tactical manoevering.  On a desert battlemat, a game really comes to life.

P.S. Where are you located?  It would be cool if you were in the Philly/NJ area--you'd find a few more players for your campaign.
